The years go by

Perhaps the reason unhappiness seems to be so widespread in the West is that people in this culture sense at a deep level that they are not using their lives well.

For all our countless activities and all the choices and resources available to us, there is very little conviction that we are producing tangible, meaningful results.

The years go by, and all we have left at the end are positive and negative memories and a dreamy sense of what has passed.

There is little chance to feel that we are making a real contribution to humanity or adding to the store of wisdom and compassion.
